Ebel was founded in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Neuchâtel, Switzerland in 1911, the historic birthplace of the watchmaking industry by Swiss watchmaker Eugene Blum and his wife Alice Levy. The brand was created by combining the initials of: Eugene Blum et Levy - EBEL.In 1999 watch company was sold to the French luxury brands group LVMH and later in 2004, was resold to the American watch group Movado, that still owns it today.
