Wednesday Watch Lounge x Corum
Posted by Right Time on Jul 9, 2020
Thank you all for joining us for a wonderful evening with Corum! Thanks again to Boon Song, Global sales and marketing manager, as well as CFO Maxime and COO Yeznig.
We had such a great time getting to "VISIT" the factory and experience a day in the life of Boon. We really got to know the brand and know what the brand stands for.
Corum is such an impressive brand to have four iconic timepieces in such a short time (65 years). After learning the history of the brand and getting to know the iconic collections, we got a sneak peek at all of the 2020 novelty pieces. It was a little like taking all of our customers to Basel with us!
Thank you Corum team!
Some fun takeaways:
-Corum was founded in 1955 by a man named RENÉ BANNWART. He was an incredible man that believed strongly in the power of creating. He left a role at Omega to start his own brand. "TO CREATE IS TO BUILD AND TO BUILD, IS TO LIVE."
-The core values of the brand remain unchanged. They commit the brand to being an Avant Garde brand that is always taking risks in an industry that is usually tied strongly to tradition.
-One of the most important risks that Corum took, is the creating of the Golden Bridge with infamous Italian watchmaker Vincent Calabrese. "I wanted to create a watch where the beauty of the movement would not be hidden behind a dial." The Golden Bridge is an incredible timepiece that is so important to our industry, that one of our industry's most important journalists, Elizabeth Doerr, wrote an entire book devoted to it. It is still the world's only baguette movement with linear gear train.
-In 1964, the Coin watch was created out of a $20 Double Eagle gold coin. This iconic piece was worn by numerous US Presidents and other prominent personalities including nobel prize laureates. This watch is created by cutting a coin in half. The front side of the coin becomes the dial and the backside of the coin becomes the case back.
-The Admiral collection began as the first square sport watch and evolved into the 12 sided icon that we know today. The sailing flags on the dial represent the numerals and forever tie the collection to sailing.
-The Bubble was introduced in 2000 in order to completely shake up an industry. The 10mm thick sapphire crystal magnifies the dial and allows for Corum to have a collection with which to have fun. Dials have featured skulls (also an industry first!), famous paintings, flags, eyeballs, and many other playful ideas.
